Software
Special thanks goes out to the guys and gals that make it work.
The Website
- pmwiki-2.2.0 by Patrick R. Michaud the wiki engine we use to serve up our web presence with. Also we've skinned this site with Triad3 maintained by HansB. http://pmwiki.org
Operating System
- The Linux Kernel founded and maintained by Linus Torvalds
- Slax OS is my favorite Linux flavor. Version 6.09 is pretty good. Find it at http://www.slax.org/
Desktop/Applications
Here is a snapshot of my editing desk.
- KDE and Fluxbox -- these are two of my favorite window managers (the beauty of having many choices of window managers switch-ably is a linux thing). KDE (http://www.kde.org/) is great all around, quite advanced, but sometimes I need to run a less resource hungry environment during audio editing and thus Fluxbox (http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/) is my most used choice.
- Jack (http://jackaudio.org/) software audio patching.
- Ardour (http://ardour.org/) non-linear audio editing.
- Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) non-linear audio editing w/waveform drawing ability.
- Ecasound (http://eca.cx/) command line audio processing.
- Flac (http://flac.sourceforge.net/) free lossless audio codec.
- Lame (http://lame.sourceforge.net/) mp3 encoder.
Gear
We started out with no gear and even less money. This list begins with the first up to the latest in our progressive acquisition and utilization of various audio gear:
- First Recordings Mackie 1202 mixer (for the preamps), Audio-Tecnica boom mic (for location recording), Sony mini-disc recorder and mastering eq and compression done via software.
- Serious-er Recordings Tascam DA-20 DAT recorder, PreSonus TubePre preamp, AKG large-diaphragm condenser mics, Behringer mastering outboard gear.
- Latest Aquired Gear One AKG SolidTube microphone and an 1981 AKG C414b which I have to qualify as our workhorse go-to mic. Also I am enjoying our Focusrite TwinTrak Pro Stereo pre-amp with an upgraded digital output card. It cost enough but is worth it.
